2021 Humanitarian Crisis in Haiti

The COVID-19 pandemic, assassination of President Jovenel Moïse, 7.2 magnitude earthquake and Tropical Storm Grace have each taken a toll on the Haitian people. As a humanitarian crisis unfolds, with access to basic needs like food, water and medical relief becoming scarce, we acknowledge that:

  • Support for people in Haiti is critical as their health and safety are threatened.
  • Those not in Haiti may find it difficult to cope with images and news reports of the situation.
  • Systemic failures in past relief efforts have created distrust and anger — and even hesitation among some people to provide assistance now.

Students who find themselves struggling with their mental health as a result of this situation can learn more about getting started with CAPS here. Students can also collaborate with CAPS to plan an Outreach event.

We will continue to monitor the situation in Haiti and opportunities to support students as news emerges.
