For students seeking care, understanding their insurance coverage — or getting coverage if they don’t have it already — can be confusing and overwhelming.  

Learn more below about how we work with students to access care, understand their coverage and get connected to other services that align with their unique needs. Beyond evaluating insurance options, we work to connect students with on-campus services, wellness coaching, the Student Food Bank and more.

  • I don’t have health insurance.
    We will work with you to understand your situation. Together, we’ll explore coverage options available to you while evaluating the cost and ways to pay for the coverage. There is no charge for this service. To learn more, schedule an appointment by calling (517) 355-8270 and asking for help with your insurance. 
  • I have health insurance, but it isn’t accepted for psychiatry services or in Student Health Services.

    It can be frustrating to learn your health insurance is not acceptedTogether, we'll explore possible alternative plans and help you enroll. There is no cost for this service. To learn more, schedule an appointment by calling (517) 355-8270 and asking for help with your insurance. 

    Remember, counseling services are free for students. Insurance is not required for counseling. Three psychiatry visits are covered by the university for students during their enrollment at MSU. Fourth and subsequent psychiatry visits are billed to insurance or the patient.
